Sandy's Sanctuary and Animal Rescue

Sandy's Sactuary started as a safe place for senior animals to live out their golden years, receiving love and care from founder Sandy Rode. Living in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Sandy saw first hand the consquences of the pet overpopulation problem. There simply aren't enough kennels in municipal shelters for all the cats and dogs coming in, and too many are losing their lives as a result of humans not being responsible with their pets.In 2022, Sandy began fostering orphaned kittens alongside her senior dogs. Not long after, she accepted a couple adult cats who just needed a bit of extra time to find a home. By 2023, it was clear there was definitely a need for another rescue in Guthrie to help provide a halfway home for animals seeking a second chance at life.With a focus on the importance of Spay/Neuter and core vaccinations, Sandy's Sanctuary and Animal Rescue now seeks to provide a little extra time and space to animals searching for their Forever Families.

14 year old Spayed Female
Terrier Mix

Abby is partially blind, hard of hearing, nearly toothless, and is just as crotchity as you'd expect an ancient being like her to be!Originally assumed to be a fospice case, she seems to actually have a lot of life (and sass) left in her! Abby would love an older home where she can be doted on, and give gentle kisses to those she finds worthy of such a gift. She is dog and cat friendly, and good with pee pads or being let out (though, she can't hold it as long as the young dogs can!). Kids aren't the best idea because she does not appreciate grabby hands or surpises.

Zerg

8 year old Neutered MaleShepherd/Heeler Mix

Puppy days long behind him, Zerg has had enough of the rowdy dogs in rescue, and would enjoy some peace, quiet, and all the butt scratches you care to give him. We can easily picture him along side a farm family, or an older gentleman like himself.Zerg is dog, kid, and cat friendly, but gets fussy about any animals close by when it's dinner time- feeding seperate is great for him. He won't bite, but he will grump like the old man he is the whole time.

Ozzy

This little guy is the perfect sidekick. Ozzy wants to be everywhere you are, pretty much all the time. He's a little scared of car rides, but if you're going? Well, he'll be brave if it means he can tag along.Ozzy loves to snuggle in bed, right against his humans. He's a bit of a talker if a stranger comes to the door, but quiets down once he's made a new friend. He is kid/cat/dog friendly, and ready to be your personal mini security detail.

Myah

7 year old Spayed Female
Pitbull Terrier

Myah is a fairly reserved middle aged girl who'd love a couch to nap on most of the day. She's happy to join you outside, so long as you're up for lazing around immediately afterwards. Myah is good with kids, cats and other dogs, but there should be no livestock at her forever home. She's familliar with a doggy door, and is fully housetrained.

Mia

6 year old Spayed Female
Chihuahua

Mia is a sweet little lady who has some bad hips. She has monthly medication that she takes to help her stay mobile, and would love a home where she can recieve extra care and comfort. She is only 15 lbs, and a little on the chonky side. Mia knows to use pee pads, or go outside with her humans. She's great with other dogs of all sizes.

Percy

Super Mutt

Your breed guess is as good as ours on this one. Medium size, 35lbs, nub tail, hound ears, dumptruck booty... but at least you know this goofball was having a good time during her photoshoot 😂 Percy tends to take a few tries to warm up to strangers, but once she trusts you, it's all silly butt wiggles and playbows. Kid, Cat and Dog friendly, and loves to give kisses.

Christmas Carol

Christmas Carol is a sweet girl who is very used to farm life. She loves to be the center of attention, accompanying her humans outside and indoors. Christmas is good with kids, cats and other dogs, but would prefer there not be more than 2 other canines in her future forever home.

Pocket sized Pepe is only 7lbs, and he's full of sass and snuggles! This handsome little man takes a little bit to warm up to strangers, but once he trusts you, he's ready to be your favorite lap dog!
Pepe is good with cats and other dogs, but would prefer to be one of only a few pets in his home. A couple polite children who don't chase would also be ok! 💖

Darby

1.5 year old Neutered MaleGreat Pyrenees Mix

This big pup has had a rough start to his life. Darby first entered rescue as a young pup, and was adopted. He has since been returned due to no fault of his own 💔He is a very large dog who doesn't know he's big. He plays big, cuddles big, and would do well with lots of space to roam- typical of his breed.Darby enjoys older kids and other big, bold dogs, but cannot be in a home with access to livestock or cats.

Pierre was found with super matted fur, and covered in sores from his time abandoned outdoors. This tiny little guy hasn't let his sad past slow him down though, and is full of energy and sass at the rescue! He routinely bosses around the big dogs, and bullies his way into laps.
Pierre came into the rescue very thin, and has already gained 1lb! At 7.5lbs now, he is prime purse-dog size,

Winnie

Cattle Dog Mix

This sweet, playful girl is so gentle, and a big favorite at the rescue. Winnie is mild mannered, easy going, and has good manners for a puppy! She is likely done growing height-wise, and will only fill out a little more over the next 6 months.Winnie is good with kids and other dogs, and really enjoys being around cats! She is crate trained, great on a leash, and house trained.

Lab/Shepherd mix

This beautiful black lab mix was found by a rescue transporter and friend of the rescue, running along i40 💔 Covered in scabs, in her first heat, and struggling. Since coming to rescue, she has healed and grown into such an amazing companion. Paulie knows sit, shake and down, walks great on a leash, is house trained, and crate trained! She loves kids, cats and other dogs, and will make the perfect addition to any family.

Toffee

7 month old Spayed Female
Pit Mix (small)

Toffee has the cutest ears around, and so much love to give! This itty bitty pittie girl was found emaciated and struggling to survive, but nothings going to stop her from enjoying puppy life now that she's healthy and happy in rescue.
Toffee is currently only 20lbs, and we don't know if she'll get much taller. Her ears are probably the biggest thing about her, aside from maybe her heart. This petite lil girl loves kids, cats, dogs- anyone who'll give her some pets and kisses.

Renae is so full of love, she's bursting at the seams! This playful, silly sweetheart is full of energy and kisses for anyone who'll accept them. She loves kids, cats, dogs, and cookies!She is working on housetraining and basic commands, and is very eager to please her humans. We expect with a family who has experience puppy training, Renae will be quick to learn all sorts of tricks!

Sweet, playful Tara is everything you could be looking for in a mini house panther! She entered rescue with her sister after being found out fending for themselves. Tara is already spayed, but will need 2 more vaccinations, so her adoption will technically be foster-to-adopt for the next month. She is easy to get along with, and would love other kitty friends to play with in her new home.

This silly, spunky little guy plays as much as he cuddles. Mayplum can often be found tearing up the cat tree with bigger kitties in rescue, running between big dogs legs, and rolling around on a window perch. He's got lots of energy, and will do just about anything for a churu! We initially thought Mayplum was a girl 😂 but surprise! Boy!

Chaste is a playful, sweet little girl who loves to be carried and kissed on her head. She enjoys her treats and playing with other kitten friends, but always slows down and comes for a cuddle once she's done. Chaste is pretty outgoing, and quick to make friends. She'd love another kitty at home to play and snuggle with (Isis would be a great option!)

Dipper is a big charmer, and bigger snuggle bug. He's also the worlds biggest cry baby 😅 If he can't see his sister Mabel, you WILL hear about it! Super vocal, and super affectionate, this goofball looks like he's always smiling. He's been doing great on harness training, and would be happy to live with any other animals so long as his sister Mabel is at his side. Kids, cats, dogs- he loves everyone.

Mabel has the SOFTEST fur you've ever felt! This pretty princess loves her booty paps, stealing your pillow at night, and wrassling her pudgy, needy brother Dipper. Mabel had an ulcer in her right eye, but it has now healed wonderfully, and she has no lasting damage! 🥳 She gets along well with all other kitties, gentle children, and polite dogs.

Kate and her sister Kristin entered the rescue along with a large group of cats from an urgent situation. They were very sick upon arrival, but are now healthy and ready for homes, either together or apart!Kate is the more polite, snuggly girl of the sisters. She enjoys other cats for company, and can often be found playing with younger kittens in the rescue. She's sweet, affectionate, and gentle!

Klara is everyone's best friend, and has enver met a stranger. This charming girl has the same eye condition her mother has, but it is more severe and she is only able to see out of one eye. That doesn't slow her down any, but she does have forever-sniffles as a result of poor drainage in that special eye.
This purr-fect girl is so friendly, she even likes to cuddle the dogs in the rescue! 😍 She'd love animal friends in her adoptive home, and is great with children!

Goldie is a spunky goofball, and is full of playful energy. This girl is full of beans and mischief almost all the time 😆 She is ok with polite dogs and children, and likes other cats once she's had a moment to get used to them. She'd love to go home with a family who'll play with her lots, and provide lots of things to keep her busy!

Banksy was trapped and vetted by a sweet friend of the rescue 💖 He was likely once someone's pet, and is quite happy indoors on a cat tree or in a sunbeam. He has allowed a few pets, but is still working on trusting people a little more before adoption. Bansky is not a fan of children or dogs, but has been great with other cats and low energy humans who don't force affection on him. He has been spotted snuggling Spooky, and watching the fish tank like it's a TV. This boy is perfect for a family who just needs a friend for their kitty, or an extra spoiled barn cat.

Julianna

1.5 year old Spayed Female
Gray Shorthair Tabby

This pretty lady gets affectioantely called 'Grandma', but she really isn't very old! She is not a fan of dogs or rowdy people/kids, but LOVES other cats, especially kittens 🥰 She would love to go to a home with a young cat she can take care of! Just a very caring, nurturing kitty who wants to curl up with feline company (or human, once and a while!).

Googley Eyes

This sweet, easy going lady has eyes so crossed, one is pointed all the way in 😂 She might not be looking at you, but she IS paying attention! Googley Eyes is friendly, affectionate, and very gentle. She enjoys playing with other cats, especially Jack, a special young male kitty in the rescue.Googley Eyes is Klara's mom, but is happy to just be around other cats- her daughter, or anyone else. She's also pretty used to dogs and children.

Elm entered rescue with her two daughters, and their combined litters of kittens. This sweet, lovey lady has done her time raising children, and would love to be a spoiled princess with access to all the sunbeams she could ever want 😌👑💅 She is ok with other cats and polite dogs, and so long as children don't chase or gab, she'll tolerate them too.

Bandy

2 year old Spayed Female

Bandy was part of the 17 cat intake from May. Cat trees are a favorite spot for this chonky girl, and she'd prefer to have at least one in her new home so she can spend her lazy afternoons sprawled in one having the best nap of her life.
Bandy enjoys other cats and calm dogs, but is pretty firm on her boundaries so polite children who are older than 8 would be best.

Kim was part of the 17 cats that recently came in to the rescue from an urgent situation. This sassy, playful girl is ok with other easy going cats and polite dogs, but is very clear about when she's had enough hassling 😂 In true calico fashion, she thinks she's the queen of the house! She's a bit bossy and demanding, so you better be ready to prove her a lap to sit in!

Abandoned in a carrier out front a church alongside his brother, Peter is new to the rescue but has adapted very quickly. This handsome guy loves to watch the chaos of rescue from a high perch, surverying his kingdom alongside his best friend and brother, John. The two saints would love to go home together to a quieter environment where they wont be chased by children, and will be offered a couch to cuddle and snooze on.

This cute, adventurous boy likes to hang out with kids, cats and dogs! Friendly, affectionate, and pretty easy going. He is very easy for other animals to get along with, and is happy to just do whatever the crowd is doing!
You can tell Spencer apart from Conan based on Spencers longer white socks on his back legs.

While shy at first, Conan only takes a moment to warm up to you before asking for a headbump. This handsome boy really enjoys the company of dogs, and follows some of the rescue pups around, rubbing up on their legs. He gets along with other cats, and is ok with kids who don't chase or scream at him. He DOES tend to enjoy his time in outdoor adventures, and would love a catio or stroller in his adoptive home!

Marilyn is a low energy girl who loves to nap on cat trees and in sun beams. She is super easy going, and adjusts to new spaces quickly. She is ok with kids, cats and dogs, but would like all of those things to be polite and give her a bit of space once and a while. She is very affectionate in quieter environments, and will likely be a kitty who crawls in bed with her new family each night 💖

Spooky came to rescue as a nursing momma. Her kittens have long since been adopted, and for a while she wanted to live life as a barn cat. More recently she has decided inside isn't so bad, and cuddles are pretty awesome. A catio or supervised time outdoors would be perfect in her new home. She loves napping in cat trees, but nothing can replace a good roll in the dirt, in her opinion😅 Spooky is good with kids, cats and dogs, and has been vaccinated for FeLV as a precaution, since she loves outdoors so much.

Maxine came to rescue along with her adult daughter, who is still learning to trust humans. Maxine is a chatty lovebug who will greet you at the door, asking for cheek rubs and pets on her head.Polite children and other pets are ok, but Maxine has a sore spot on her back near her tail that she does not like to have touched. Good cat manners are appreciated!

Stevie is a quiet, gentle soul who would love to be your best cuddle buddy, so long as you give her time to adjust! She is not the biggest fan of excitable children or dogs (calm ones are ok!), but really enjoys other cats and kittens. She will take a while to warm up in a new home, but is a total lap cat once she is comfy. She loves her canned food (she's a bit of a chonky girl), and playing with string toys!

She is a pretty independant cat, who enjoys the occassional cuddle with her low-energy, low volume humans. Her eye is about as healed as it will ever get.

This handsome gentleman was one of the 17 cats that recently entered rescue from an urgent situation.TJ tends to be a bit of a bully to other cats who don't give him lots of space, and may be best as the only kitty in his household. He is ok with polite dogs if given proper time to get used to them, and is a little more patient with female cats. TJ is affectionate and loving to humans, and would be fine with children.

Jaime is a fairly low energy kitty who likes her cozy hidey holes and naps in the afternoons. She's a little slower to warm up to new folks, and prefers to come to you, rather than being approached for cuddles. You've just gotta work to win her favor 💖 Jaime likes to spend time with other cats who respect personal space, but loud children and excitable dogs really aren't her style.

This boy is as chill as they come, and would love to hang out with you! He loves chin scratches, cheek rubs, and a good ol' fashion sun beam to laze in.Handsome is ok with other polite pets, so long as they don't force touch upon him- he likes to go at his own pace. Kids are ok so long as they respect boundaries.

Animals in Foster Care

All puppies and kittens must receive appropriate vaccines and boosters prior to adoption.
It is law in Oklahoma that ALL cats and dogs adopted out by rescues must be spayed or neutered, and be vaccinated against rabies. These things take time (and money!), so while you are encouranged to enquire about any of the pictured animals in foster care, please be aware it may be several weeks before they are ready to be adopted and come home with you.

All the same, he is happy to have a safe home and endless snacks 💖 But maybe don't go sticking your fingers in his big fancy house unless you dont mind a solid CHOMP😅

Jack has had ongoing eye problems for a while now. After 4 months of treatment, the eye is looking much better. Jack is exceptionally lovey and friendly. He likes to play with kids, cats and dogs! He will need daily eyedrops likely longterm.

This pretty girl isn't so sure she'd like strangers to cuddle her just yet. She warms up slow, and with a quiet environment. Strangers are new and scary, but once she trusts a person, she'll allow some gentle pets and company. We are hoping she'll learn that strangers aren't so bad with time and lots of treats 🍪🍰 Goldy would LOVE another cat in her home who is much braver and bolder. She needs a feline friend to help boost her confidence.

Meatloaf

Big Girls give the best snuggles, and boy could this sweetheart use a hug. Meatload is 18bs of shy softie 🥺 She is very scared about any change in scenery, but accepting pets eagerly none the less. Especially if you bring an offering of canned food. 💝 Meatloaf is the kind of cat who will take a few weeks to settle in, but then be the worlds biggest lap cat. She enjoys cats and dogs, but rowdy kids might be a little scary for her.

This poor, scared girl lost her whole world when her owner went into assisted care 💔 She is settling in well in the rescue's Shy Cat Room. She has been sweet and gentle, and will soon be ready to go to a new home.

Crookshanks entered the rescue with her sister and mother, along with her litter of kittens. She has struggled with irritated eyes the whole time, and will hopefully be ready for a child-free or barn home soon!

These young kittens mom was unfortunately hit by a car 💔 They are currently in a foster home recieving lots of love, tasty food, and growing like weeds. They will require 3 more rounds of vaccinations, and their neuter, before they are able to be adopted.

Please understand that currently we are not taking surrenders due to lack of space in foster. Intake will remain closed until multiple animals have found homes. Thank you for caring for an animal.If you have found a stray within city limits, please contact the local animal control. It is generally accepted that a stray animal should serve a 72h stray hold before being given away. You can have any animal scanned for a microchip at your local vet clinic or Petsmart store.
