Sandy's Sanctuary started as a safe place for senior animals to live out their golden years, receiving love and care from founder Sandy Rode. Living in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Sandy saw first hand the consequences of the pet overpopulation problem. There simply aren't enough kennels in municipal shelters for all the cats and dogs coming in, and too many are losing their lives as a result of humans not being responsible with their pets.In 2022, Sandy began fostering orphaned kittens alongside her senior dogs. Not long after, she accepted a couple adult cats who just needed a bit of extra time to find a home. By 2023, it was clear there was definitely a need for another rescue in Guthrie to help provide a halfway home for animals seeking a second chance at life.By late 2025, with a board of directors and established volunteers, Sandy took the next step in animal Rescue; Non-profit status and kennel licensing for the state of Oklahoma. Now officially an Oklahoma 501(c)(3) Rescue with a focus on the importance of Spay/Neuter and core vaccinations, Sandy's Sanctuary and Animal Rescue INC seeks to provide a little extra time and space to animals searching for their Forever Families.

Puppy days long behind him, Zerg has had enough of the rowdy dogs in rescue, and would enjoy some peace, quiet, and all the butt scratches you care to give him. We can easily picture him along side a farm family, or an older gentleman like himself.Zerg is dog, kid, and cat friendly, but gets fussy about any animals close by when it's dinner time- feeding seperate is great for him. He won't bite, but he will grump like the old man he is the whole time, then go curl up for a nap in the nearest laundry basket.

Miniature Dachshund
Robin and her friends came to the rescue from a city animal shelter. All 4 suffered severe neglect, likely as their caretaker aged 😢 We do not think any of them had seen outside in a long time, nor had they seen a vet.Robin was very sick for a while, and still has a lingering cough. This does not stop her from playing and running around the rescue with the big dogs! She's a tiiny little lap buddy who loves absolutely everyone- kids, cats, dogs, you name it! She will even offer her fav toy to new dogs when saying hello 🥺

Miniature Dachshund
Rudy and his friends came to the rescue from a city animal shelter. All 4 suffered severe neglect, likely as their caretaker aged 😢 We do not think any of them had seen outside in a long time, nor had they seen a vet.Rudy is a goofy little guy once he's comfortable, and enjoys his fluffy pillow beds, or sitting in your lap. He is great with other dogs, and enjoys feline company, big or small! We think young children might be a lot for this little man, but older kids who respect personal space should be fine.

Myah is a fairly reserved middle aged girl who'd love a couch to nap on most of the day. She's happy to join you outside, so long as you're up for lazing around immediately afterwards. Myah is good with kids, cats and a few other dogs, but there should be no livestock at her forever home. She's familliar with a doggy door, and is fully housetrained, but doesn't like to share a bed with other dogs. She'd prefer her own space for bed time.. unless she's the only dog crawling in bed with YOU!
4-6 year old Spayed Female
Terrier Mix (25lbs)
Toto came to the rescue after her puppies were taken from her much too early, and sold on craigs list. Toto was distrustful at first, but has learned that humans bring nice food, and some gentle head pats. While she is still shy, and a little growly at first, Toto is very sweet once she trusts her humans. Other dogs and cats are A-OK, but kids aren't a good much for her at this time.

Holly's owner unfortunately passed away this year, and due to her bossy nature, she does not get along with any of her family's pets. She would do best as an only pet. That being said, Holly is an amazing, beautiful dog. She is well trianed, fantastic on a leash, house trained, and kennel trained. Holly is affectionate, playful, and very outgoing. Any adopting family must have a solid fence if letting her off leash.
3 year old American Bulldog mix
Heartbreaking doesn't even begin to describe this family upon intake. Skin and bones, and with Momma Faith HW+, plus coccidia, hookwarms and even having ehrlichia 😭 Life has not been kind to her. Jer beautiful babies have already found homes, and now that she has compelted heartworm treatment, and her chin has healed, it's her turn!Faith is a very gentle medium size girl. House trained, crate trained, great on a leash, and not at all a barker. Kid/cat/dog friendly too!

This little man is full of sass and love, all at the same time. Bandito wants to rule your lap with an iron fist, but will reward gentle pets with the softest of kisses if he deems you worthy. If bratty little dogs is your jam, Bandito might just be your jelly. He does not like being picked up- but will climb into your arms when he wants, where he wants. We're not sure he knows he isn't a cat, honestly. Because of his nippy nature, Bandito would be best in a home without children. Polite ones would likely be fine for visits, but when this guy is done, he's REALLY done. Other animals his size are A-OK, though!

Pat came to us from OKC Animal Welfare's euth list. He is a very shy, but very sweet boy. He is good with other gentle dogs, and definitely a more low-energy pup.Pat is used to being outside a lot of the time, and is slowly getting used to having house access. He will need a patient adopter willing to give him lots of time to settle in to a new home.

Long Hair Chihuahua Mix
This short stacked fluff ball is full of beans and kisses! Buddy loves everyone he's every met- kids, cats, dogs, you name it! He's everyone's buddy!Buddy came in with Reggie, an older long haired chihuahua, and we think even if they don't stay together, he'd probably enjoy having other critters for company in his new home. He currently loves to sleep under the cat trees at the rescue, and watchs all the kittens play!

Good golly, Miss Molly! Talk about a mini-hippo! Molly was found abandoned while pregnant, at only 11 months old 💔 A previous adopter reached out to us for help, and how could we say no to this angel?Molly likes children and some other dogs, but cannot be in a home with cats. She is a big, kissy snuggly potato-shaped chonk, built low to the ground for speed and accuracy 🤣 Just kidding. At 35lbs, she is not even tall enough to get her head in the fridge 😂 Photos do not do this sweet girl justice, but unfortunately she is scared of the camera.

This beautiful girl came from the stars, and she's truly out of this world! ✨ Nova is a little shy at first, and scared to be pet until she knows she can trust you not to hurt her. Once she's comfortable, she's sweet as can be, and super gentle.Nova LOVES other dogs, and would prefer to go to a home that already has a confident, outgoing dog. She is ok with cats, but older children are a little more her thing. Rowdy young kids who yell are still scary for her.

Handsome doesn't even cover it- this good locking lad is drop dead gorgeous 😍 Banjo is a real charmer, and very well behaved. He knows sit & shake, is house trained, crate trained, and fantastic on a leash. He's good buddies with Rascal, and the two love to run and play in the yard.Banjo is great with all other animals, and would be the perfect addition to ANY family.

Venus came to us from OKC Animal Welfare's euth list. She does struggle with being crated, and barks at any passing dogs while she's contained. When she's outside of a kennel, Venus THRIVES! She loves dogs of all shapes and sizes, but plays best with pups who can keep up with a girl as big as her! Her paws are massive, so we know she's still got some growing to do, and will eventually reach Horse status closer to 1yr old.Due to a high prey drive, we do not suggest a home with chickens or rabbits unless an adopter is really willing to work on training her.

This goober is full of beans pretty much all the time. He's a super silly little man who loves a good cuddle just a little less than he loves to lick your face. Mac has all that expected puppy energy, but has been doing very well with house training, despite his extremely distractable nature. Mac loves all other animals, and isn't even afraid of the big dogs! Kids would be GREAT for this little busybody.

Spud and her sister Tater were found alone on a dirt road in the country. She is a playful little girl who is actually SUPER smart! Spud taught herself to 'sit' for treats, just by watching the other dogs in rescue 😍 We love a quick learner! she is good with cats and other dogs, but loud kids are a little scary for her right now. Slow intros are KEY!

Black Lab Mix
Tater and her sister Spud were found alone on a dirt road in the country. Tater had a horrible gouge on his back, likely from a barbed wire fence. It has mostly healed, but due to not getting vet care for so long while injured, the wound had started healing incorrectly, so her skin is not smooth around where it was.She is still a sweet, gentle puppy who doesn't know she looks any different than the other dogs at the rescue. Tater is good with cats and other dogs, but loud kids are a little scary for him right now. Slow intros are KEY!

Must go home together!
These kittens are in a foster home, so their only photos were taken at an adoption event.Ramen and Dumpling are gentle twin sisters who love to cuddle up together. It's pretty tricky to tell them apart! These tiny girls get along great with other cats, and are very used to children in their foster home.

Would like to go home with Snickers.
This itty bitty trouble maker is a big purr machine, and tiny monster. She's super playful one minute, then sugar sweet the next.Kira is a very needy girl. She would do best with a kitten friend or playful young adult cat at home if you want to know peace 😂 She doesn't know the meaning of personal space, and is VERY outgoing- harness training with this kid has been a breeze.
6 month old Neutered Male

Would like to go home with Kira.
Snickers is a bit of a special case! One of his brothers unfortunately nursed on his bottom parts when their mother was killed. This did damage to him, and he needed reconstructive surgery. He pees a little differently, and looks like a female from behind, thats all! He was also pretty small for his age, and looks closer to the size of a 4 month old kitten. This sweetheart LOVES to cuddle- with people, and other cats! He must go to a home either with a friend, or to a family who already has a cat in the house.

Jane is the biggest sister in her litter, and can be a little shy at first. Once she knows she's safe, she warms up fast and wants to you pat her booty as often as you'll tolerate. She's a very silly kitten who likes feline company in the rescue. She's often found hanging out with her sister Parrot, Fluff or any of the adult cats. She has been ok with the dogs in the rescue, and we suspect she would be totally fine with polite children as well.
9 month old Spayed Female
Brown Tabby Short Hair
Parrot is much more shy than her sister Jane, but gets along with all the cats and dogs at the rescue. She'll come over to hang out, but it will take her a while to trust you enough to cozy up with you. She'd rather snuggle her sister! She is still a friendly kitten, but it's hard for any human to compete with home much she likes her sister's company 😂
9 month old Spayed Female
Black Short Hair
Sister of Lin, Fluf is a snuggly girl who loves her kitty friends. She's not quite as outgoing as her sibling, but she IS a total sweetheart! If you're wondering how we tell Fluf apart from the 12 other black cats in the rescue, she is our one black kitten who kinda has crazy eyes 😅 There's just a hint of Unhinged in the way she stares at you.

Mabel has the SOFTEST fur you've ever felt! This pretty princess loves her booty paps, stealing your pillow at night, and wrassling her pudgy, needy brother Dipper.Mabel has recently completed treatment for FIP! 🥳 She is currently in Observation, and any adopter will need to fully understand what that means prior to adoption.

Dipper is a big charmer, and bigger snuggle bug. He's also the worlds biggest cry baby 😅 If he can't see his sister Mabel, you WILL hear about it! Super vocal, and super affectionate, this goofball looks like he's always smiling. He's been doing great on harness training, and would be happy to live with any other animals so long as his sister Mabel is at his side.Dipper is currently doing well on a RAW ONLY diet (Viva) due to his Irritable Bowel Disease.

Sweet Girl is only 1 year old, but clearly had a very hard life outdoors. The world has been painful and very scary, so she was very slow to settle in at the rescue. She currently lives in our Shy Cat room, and has made friends with Goldy and Mister, two other very shy kitties.Due to her limited sight, Sweet Girl will need a very patient adoptive family, and humans who understand that changing furnature around on a blind girl makes life extra tricky 😂 She would prefer no rowdy dogs or rough children in her home, but gentle and polite ones may be ok with slow introductions.
1.5 year old Neutered Male

Bean is quite literally bean shaped. He's a soft, chonky boy who loves to lay around in his cat tree all day. He can be playful, but he'd much rather doze the day away 😆 This handsome, round boy gets along with kids, cats and dogs just fine! Easy going, and slow going, he's the perfect cuddlebug lap cat for any family. Have you got some space on your couch for this magestic little lump?
2 year old Spayed Female

This sweet, easy going lady has eyes so crossed, one is pointed all the way in 😂 She might not be looking at you, but she IS paying attention! Googley Eyes is friendly, affectionate, and very gentle. She loves to cuddle humans, and enjoys the company of other cats. She is also a very large cat, rather than a tiny dainty girl 😅 She will happily be carried around, if you can lift her!

Penny is a friendly former feral kitty who has decided inside life is pretty ok so long as there's lots of toys. She is pretty outgoing, and quick to chase any string or ball you offer.Other cats and polie dogs are ok, and even kids are alright so long as they understand that Penny will set boundaries and expect them to be respected.

Kim was part of 17 cats that came in to the rescue from an urgent situation. This sassy, bossy girl wants to rule your lap like the throne she feels entitled to.Kim recently completed some treatment, and our vet thinks for her health, being an only pet in her future home would be ideal.

Maxine came to rescue along with her adult daughter, who is still learning to trust humans. Maxine is a chatty lovebug who will greet you at the door, asking for cheek rubs and pets on her head.Polite children and other pets are ok, but Maxine has a sore spot on her back near her tail that she does not like to have touched. Good cat manners are appreciated!

Sally was part of the 17 cats that came in to the rescue from an urgent situation. This sweet girl likes other cats and warm sun beams, but would prefer to be away from any rowdy dogs in her new home. She is a pretty independant cat, who enjoys the occassional cuddle with her low-energy, low volume humans. Her eye is about as healed as it will ever get.

This handsome gentleman was one of the 17 cats that recently entered rescue from an urgent situation.TJ tends to be a bit of a bully to other cats who don't give him lots of space, and may be best as the only kitty in his household. He is ok with polite dogs if given proper time to get used to them, and is a little more patient with female cats. TJ is affectionate and loving to humans, and would be fine with children.
5 year old Neutered Male

This boy is as chill as they come, and would love to hang out with you! He loves chin scratches, cheek rubs, and a good ol' fashion sun beam to laze in.Henry is ok with other polite pets, so long as they don't force touch upon him- he likes to go at his own pace. Kids are also ok so long as they respect boundaries! He'd make a wonderful pet for a family who wants a cat to be involved in everything they do.
5 year old Neutered Male

Ron was previously adopted from the rescue, but returned due to not liking the energetic dogs in his home 😔 We think Ron would do best in a family without dogs. He loves other cats, and is good with children! This sweet, gentle boy has very mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia, and holds his back legs a little differently. He is only a little unsteady on his feet, and has no real complications from it- it just makes him extra unique!

Jaime is a fairly low energy kitty who likes her cozy hidey holes and naps in the afternoons. She's a little slower to warm up to new folks, and prefers to come to you, rather than being approached for cuddles. You've just gotta work to win her favor 💖 Jaime likes to spend time with other cats who respect personal space, but loud children and excitable dogs really aren't her style.

Chonk is a big boy with a lot of love to give. He entered the rescue weighing 18lbs, and has gotten down to 16lbs now 💖 He is doing well on his health journey, and loves to headbump anyone who will let him. This sweet man is kid, cat and dog friendly, and woul enjoy a home where he can be on a lap as often as possible. Sunny windows and cat trees are almost just as good of a nap location, though!
All puppies and kittens must receive appropriate vaccines and boosters prior to adoption.
It is law in Oklahoma that ALL cats and dogs adopted out by rescues must be spayed or neutered, and be vaccinated against rabies. These things take time (and money!), so while you are encouranged to enquire about any of the pictured animals in foster care, please be aware it may be several weeks before they are ready to be adopted and come home with you.

This grumpy girl raised her kittens in the rescue, but would really rather not deal with humans touching her. Unfortuantely, that makes it very difficult to medicate her injured eye. It's taking time to earn her trust.

Ariel came to us from an independant rescuer who knew her care was above what she could provide. Ariel is in a medical foster home, and we are currently treating for Ocular FIP. She has some other issues, and likely will need her eye out 💔FIP treatment is 3 months long.

This pretty girl isn't so sure she'd like strangers to cuddle her just yet. She warms up slow, and with a quiet environment. Strangers are new and scary, but once she trusts a person, she'll allow some gentle pets and company. We are hoping she'll learn that strangers aren't so bad with time and lots of treats 🍪🍰 Goldy would LOVE another cat in her home who is much braver and bolder. She needs a feline friend to help boost her confidence.

Parson Russell Terrier Mix
Robbie came to us from OKC Animal Welfare. He is a bit of a grumpy old man at times, and a gentle sweetheart at others. Noisy, high-strees places like a shelter kennel really aren't his sort of scene, and he'd much rather a quiet older couple to settle down and spend afternoons on the porch with. He is currently dealing with a persistant cough, and has a small mass, so he is recieving treatment with our vet.

Miss Queenie is exactly as regal as she looks. A spoiled princess through and through, and she'll eventually be looking for a lap to rule. Queenie needs to go for some serious grooming, and gain some much needed weight before we can even think about adopting her out. She hasn't appreciated the trims she's gotten so far, so once she has her full coat again, her adopter will really need to keep up with proper grooming.

So far we know Cooper is SUPER friendly, and loves to bring visitors his toys to share. He gets along great with female dogs, and hasn't been any trouble with neutered males either. He will make an amazing family dog, and is on the smaller side for a pittie mix.

New Arrival!
Reggie arrived with a pretty nasty upper respitory infection, and is undergoing treatment with our vet. He is terrified of being in a cage, so we are working with him to relax and get healthy. He loves other little dogs and cats, but kids are a bit much for his tastes.
Every animal brought into the rescue is vaccinated, altered, and put on preventitives (flea & tick, heartworm, ect). Costs add up quickly, especially if an animal enters rescue sick, or in need of extra care. If you would like to assist with the costs of the rescue, below are ways to do so.
The most direct way to assist with veterinary costs is to add any amount to the rescue's account at Veterinary Corner here in Guthrie. Most of the animals in rescue recieve their care at Vet Corner- anything from spays and neuters, to parvo treatment and wound care.Veterinary Corner

Please understand that currently we cannot intake every animal we are asked to. Space is limited, and not every animal matches what we have foster homes for. 😔 We often must help what is already in our care, before we can assist more animals. If you have found a stray within city limits, please contact the local animal control to notify them. It is generally accepted that a stray animal should serve a 72h stray hold before being rehomed. You can have any animal scanned for a microchip at your local vet clinic or Petsmart store. Thank you for caring for an animal. Please reach out if you have physical donations needing dropped off. If you are wanting to visit the rescue and sanctuary, an adoption application or foster application must be filled out in order to be given our address. This is to prevent animals being dumped on rescue property, and ensure we know who is coming to see us!
